About Amanda

As long as I can remember I’ve had art supplies in my hands, painting and coloring anything and everything I came in contact with. My main inspiration has always been nature.

Growing up in Northern Michigan, I used to just go BE in the woods by my house, climbing trees, looking for frogs and turtles and talking to them (and to myself) about life things. I wanted to understand, explore, clean the planet, save the trees, protect the animals and felt pretty powerless to do anything to support the vastness of nature as a young person.

I haven’t had a lot of formal art education; a college level class here, an online art workshop there.. but over the years I’ve always come back to the need to be creative in my life. I am self taught, as it were, having the innate ability to pickup on creative processes very quickly. Though some say it’s just a ‘natural talent’ for art, I know that it’s the years spent in persistent experimentation and practice that makes one an artist.

I’m also always drawn back to nature; being in nature for calmness and solitude, slowing down to spot wildlife and learning more about the diversity all around us. My deep and profound connection to the natural world and all its wonders feel even more like ‘home’ to me as I age and learn and grow into myself.

Now, I’m formally painting with gouache and watercolor focusing primarily on wildlife and the fascinating connections and lessons I collect about them. I’ve found my medium and my niche and I’m ready to share that with you all.

I’m currently pursuing my Master Naturalist Certification for the state of Florida and am exploring that connection between my artwork and my passion for conservation and fostering environmental connection. I am also pursuing my license in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, with a plan to focus on Florida’s bat population.

I hope my work can serve as an invitation for people to pause and get curious about the world around them, to help motivate them to spend more time and attention to the outdoors and to interact with it ethically and responsibly. I hope to inspire people to foster their own deep and profound connection with nature, as it can be incredibly rewarding to experience.
