5 f the 7 species of terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin) live in estuarine and salt marsh environments in Florida. 3 species are endemic to Florida: the Florida East Coast Terrapin, the Ornate Terrapin and the one featured in this sticker, the Mangrove Terrapin. They feed on mollusks and crustaceans, especially snails. They are protected from commercial harvest and face threats such as getting stuck in blue crab traps and drowning, nesting habitat loss, road mortality and predation from raccoons and other nest predators.
